As most of you know I’m a relatively active person and as much as you might think I am crazy… I actually do enjoy running long distance! I usually refer to it as my “zen”, enabling me to get away from the daily grind and stresses of all the things that most of us deal with everyday.
For the past 7 years I have participated in one full marathon and several 5K, 10K, and half-marathons. While the sense of accomplishment is always there for me following a race or even while training up to it, I feel like much more can we gain throughout the process .
This year I will be running the Fox Valley half marathon on Sunday September, 16th to raise money for the Colette A. Miles Foundation. Colette was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in her late 40’s and battled with the disease until she passed at the age of 50. Friends of Colette not only watched her battle this horrible disease but also saw the effect it played on the lives of her closest friends and family members.
The mission for TCAMF is to provide comfort and support non-traditional services to families affected by cancer. Most people aren’t sure what non-traditional means and that’s the point it can be ANYTHING ( pay medical bills, holistic treatment cost, mail delivery, child care, home cleaning services, snow removal, grocery gift cards, wigs, scarves and much more).
TCAMF also partners with two of the main cancer resources in the area, Living Well Cancer Center & Fox Valley Food for health. They fund the children and teen counseling and contribute funds to help deliver cancer fighting foods to those diagnosed and their families. The foundation is run strictly by volunteers and all the funds go directly to those battling cancer.
I ask for your support and donations with great appreciation and determination. For the last several years I have finished all 7 of my half marathons with times ranging from 1:47 – 1:50 minutes. This year I will be shooting for a personal best of 1:45 minutes!
Thank you for all of your support and generosity.
